The Benchmark Scientific BenchWaver B3D5000 is a laboratory 3D rocker designed for gentle to vigorous mixing, washing, staining, and sample agitation. It combines conventional rocking motion with an orbital component to produce a three-dimensional undulating movement. This motion is useful for applications requiring consistent liquid movement across samples without the more aggressive mixing associated with some other shaker types.

Benchmark Scientific, Inc.

The instrument features a large platform with a non-slip mat, a digital LCD control panel, and adjustable rocking speed and tilt angle. Its control system allows users to select operating conditions according to the requirements of their laboratory procedures. The tilt angle can be adjusted without tools, making it convenient to switch between different mixing intensities.

The BenchWaver offers a variable speed range of 5–105 rpm and a tilt angle adjustable from 0° to ±10°. Combining these adjustments allows researchers to select gentle movement for delicate samples or more vigorous agitation for applications requiring greater liquid circulation. The unit also includes a timer that can be set for 1 minute to 99 hours or continuous operation.

Its 13.5 × 13-inch platform provides a working surface for suitable laboratory trays, staining containers, flasks, and other vessels. The supplied flat mat helps prevent containers from slipping during operation. Optional accessories, including a stacking platform and a dimpled mat, can expand its versatility when compatible with the instrument configuration.

The BenchWaver is suitable for molecular biology laboratories, biotechnology research facilities, pharmaceutical laboratories, academic institutions, and other scientific environments. Typical uses include gel staining and destaining, blot washing, membrane processing, general reagent mixing, and laboratory sample agitation. The gentle undulating movement can be useful when samples require continuous contact with a solution without intense mechanical disturbance.

The instrument is designed for use in compatible refrigerated and incubated environments. Published specifications list an operating temperature range extending from approximately +2°C to +60°C, although the precise permitted range should be checked against the applicable manual and unit configuration. This flexibility can support workflows performed under controlled temperature conditions.

With its adjustable motion, digital controls, and generous platform area, the BenchWaver is a versatile addition to laboratories that perform routine mixing and washing procedures. Before purchasing a used or refurbished unit, buyers should verify the motor operation, LCD display, speed adjustment, tilt mechanism, platform condition, and included accessories.
