The Welch CRVpro 24 is a heavy-duty two-stage direct-drive rotary vane vacuum pump designed for laboratory and industrial vacuum applications requiring reliable high-volume pumping and low ultimate pressure. The model designation CRVpro 24 is clearly visible on the front of the photographed unit. Welch identifies the CRVpro 24 as part of its CRVpro family of rotary vane vacuum pumps, designed for applications such as freeze drying, vacuum ovens, Schlenk lines, degassing, and vessel or chamber evacuation.

The CRVpro 24 provides a published pumping capacity of approximately 26.2 m³/h (436 L/min) at 50 Hz, with an ultimate pressure of approximately 3 × 10⁻³ mbar. Depending on electrical frequency and configuration, published specifications also list approximately 519 L/min at 60 Hz. The pump uses a two-stage rotary vane design with forced oil lubrication, gas ballast, anti-suckback protection, and thermal overload protection.

The CRVpro series incorporates an enlarged oil capacity and chemical-resistant construction intended to improve resistance to aggressive laboratory vapors and extend service intervals. The CRVpro 24 has an oil capacity of approximately 2.2 liters, a nominal motor power of approximately 0.85 kW, and a noise level around 55 dBA according to published technical specifications.

The photographed pump shows substantial cosmetic dirt, surface wear, and previous-use marks. The exact electrical configuration and operational condition cannot be established from the photograph alone. Vacuum performance, oil condition, motor operation, seals, valves, and connections should therefore be verified during refurbishment/testing before the unit is put into service.

Applications

The Welch CRVpro 24 is suitable for laboratory vacuum systems, freeze-drying equipment, vacuum ovens, Schlenk lines, vacuum concentrators, degassing systems, and vacuum chambers. It can also be used as a backing pump for certain turbomolecular vacuum systems where the required pumping speed and ultimate pressure are appropriate.

The pump is particularly useful where a relatively high pumping capacity and low ultimate pressure are required. Typical laboratory applications include solvent evaporation, vacuum drying, sample preparation, degassing, chemical processing, and evacuation of laboratory vessels and chambers. Welch notes that direct-drive CRVpro pumps are not intended for sustained operation above approximately 30 torr, such as certain filtration or aspiration applications.

Benefits of Refurbished Laboratory Equipment

Purchasing a refurbished Welch CRVpro 24 can provide laboratories with access to a high-capacity vacuum pumping system at a significantly lower acquisition cost than purchasing new equipment. The CRVpro series is designed for applications requiring dependable vacuum generation, making a properly tested unit suitable for research, industrial laboratories, vacuum processing, and laboratory support systems.

Refurbished vacuum pumps can also be a practical choice for laboratories that need replacement or additional vacuum capacity without investing in completely new equipment. Proper refurbishment should include inspection of the pump mechanism, motor, oil system, seals, valves, electrical components, and vacuum performance so that the equipment can be evaluated before installation.

Additional Information

The photographed unit is identified as a Welch CRVpro 24. Published documentation shows multiple electrical configurations, including 115 V and 230 V versions depending on catalog number and market. The exact voltage/frequency configuration of this photographed pump should be verified from its electrical rating plate before connection.

The photograph shows the pump in a visibly used condition with dirt, scratches, and surface wear. The exact oil condition, internal vane condition, ultimate vacuum, pumping speed, motor performance, and accessory configuration are not confirmed by the photograph. Buyers should verify these parameters and confirm included hoses, fittings, oil mist separator, valves, and other accessories before purchase.
