The Watson-Marlow 520S Peristaltic Pump is a precision variable-speed peristaltic pump designed for controlled and repeatable fluid transfer and dosing applications. The supplied photograph clearly shows the Watson-Marlow 520S drive unit with its characteristic green front panel, digital display, speed-control keypad, and integrated pumphead assembly. The 520S is part of Watson-Marlow’s 500 Series of laboratory and industrial peristaltic pumps.

The 520S provides manual control of pump speed, start/stop operation, direction, and rapid priming through the front-panel keypad. The drive offers a wide speed range of 0.1–220 rpm, allowing the pump to handle applications ranging from very low flow dosing to relatively high-volume fluid transfer when paired with the appropriate pumphead and tubing. Watson-Marlow documentation specifies a 2200:1 speed-control range for the 520S.

The exact pumphead/tubing configuration fitted to the photographed unit should be verified before publishing a maximum flow specification. Watson-Marlow 520S systems can be supplied with different 520-series pumpheads, and achievable flow depends on pumphead, tubing bore, tubing material, wall thickness, speed, and operating conditions.

Applications

The Watson-Marlow 520S is suitable for laboratory fluid transfer, reagent dispensing, chemical dosing, pharmaceutical processing, biotechnology, water treatment, and general process-fluid handling. Its peristaltic pumping principle keeps the pumped fluid confined to the tubing, which can be advantageous for applications requiring reduced contamination risk.

The pump can also be used for controlled dosing and repeat dispensing applications. With compatible tubing and pumpheads, the 520S can provide flow rates ranging from very low laboratory-scale flows to higher transfer rates. Actual performance should be established using the specific tubing and pumphead installed on the unit.

For a 520S fitted with a 520R pumphead and suitable 1.6 mm-wall tubing, published specifications show flow ranges from approximately 0.004 ml/min to 2.4 L/min, depending on tubing bore and material. This should not be treated as the guaranteed flow range of the photographed unit unless its pumphead and tubing configuration are confirmed.

Benefits of Refurbished Laboratory Equipment

Purchasing refurbished laboratory equipment can provide laboratories, universities, pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology facilities, and industrial organizations with access to established precision equipment at a lower cost than purchasing new instrumentation. A refurbished Watson-Marlow 520S can be particularly useful for laboratories requiring reliable variable-speed fluid transfer or dosing capabilities.

Refurbished peristaltic pumps are also useful for maintaining existing process systems where compatibility with established tubing, pumpheads, and fluid-handling assemblies is important. The 520S’s broad speed range and compatibility with multiple 520-series pumpheads make it adaptable to different flow requirements.

Additional Information

The supplied photograph clearly identifies the main unit as a Watson-Marlow 520S. The photograph also shows a pumphead assembly fitted to the drive. However, the exact pumphead model, tubing size/material, electrical configuration, and included accessories should be confirmed before purchase.

Tubing is a consumable and should be selected according to the fluid, pressure, temperature, chemical compatibility, required flow rate, and installed pumphead. Watson-Marlow notes that accurate and repeatable flow performance should be established under the actual operating conditions for each new tubing installation.
